1993

Saraswati Mandir School
was founded to provide education and rehabilitation for children with mental retardation from the lower economic strata of society.

1994

Saraswati Mandir Trust
was founded to provide quality educational programmes in order to integrate children with disability into the family, school, college, workplace and society at the earliest. The Trust acquired Saraswati Mandir School after its establishment in 1994.

1996

Persons With Disability Act 1995
The government enforced the Persons With Disability (Protection of Rights, Equal Opportunities and Full Participation)
Act 1995 which defined disability in India.

THE PWD ACT WAS A HUGE MILESTONE FOR SMT SINCE IT PROMOTED INCLUSIVE EDUCATION AND HELPED US SERVE OUR BENEFICIARIES BETTER

2000
PACE Resource Centre

was started to mainstream children with disabilities and learning problems into regular schools. Through counselling sessions and workshops, the objective was to spread awareness in order to prevent segregation that was taking place in society.

Project Udaan

was a vocational centre for young adults with disability set up by SMT. This was a collaborative initiative with Manav Seva Sangha.

Early Years Programme

was founded by SMT for children with severe and multiple disability. The programme was to cater to their special needs yet prepare them for a school environment.

IN 2002 THIS PROGRAMME GREW INTO TULIPS, A FULL–FLEDGED SCHOOL FOR SUCH CHILDREN

2002

TULIPS
The Universal Learning Integrated Programme and School (TULIPS) was started to meet the requirement of children with Autism, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities since no school, special or normal, would accept these children and render any kind of educational help.

2010

The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009
was passed and that further validated our work in inclusive education and gave our students the right to study in mainstream schools.

2013

WE ATTEMPTED TO INCLUDE ALL OUR 50 STUDENTS INTO MAINSTREAM SCHOOLS AND DISCONTINUED BOTH OUR SPECIAL SCHOOLS. 

FAQforEDU

was launched In May 2013. It is a youtube channel that features all information related to education for children with and without disability. The channel is interactive and any parent, teacher or citizen can ask for their questions on education to be answered by professionals or other parents. https://www.youtube.com/faqforedu

Project TULIP Children and PACE Resource Centre

was launched in 2013 starting a new chapter for SMT. TULIP Children is the ‘direct reach’ wing of the Trust working with children, parents and teachers directly. While PACE Resource Centre is the ‘advocacy’ wing spreading awareness on inclusive education.
